WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE

I'm always so worried to hear that Hollywood types have decided to butcher another classic, and so I didn't like the idea of them touching my beloved Where the Wild Things Are. That being said, every once and a while I guess they get it right. At least I hope so. This trailer for Spike Jonze's adaptation gives me cause for hope. And I do love me some Arcade Fire. Okay, I admit...I'm pretty excited for this to come out now!

Speaking of wild things, a fabulous time was had by all in fabulous, fabulous Montreal. I wish I had pictures to post, but I'm afraid I come from that school of thought which shuns excessive picture taking. In hindsight, perhaps ONE photo might not have been all that bothersome and I'd have something nice to put on the living room wall, but goodness does it ever seem annoying when so many flashes are going off during my damn dinner. Or worse yet, when I've been drinking. No documentation needed, thanks! The hangover will do!

I shouldn't write posts when I'm overtired. Forgiveness please.

MONTREAL

I'm off to frighten some French Canadians. Regular programming (the oh so frequent and high quality posts that you're used to) will resume in five days or so.

VALERIE DUMAINE

At this time next week, I'm going to be frolicking around downtown Montreal in a haze of giddy, unadulterated consumerism. Clothes, booze, and fattening, fattening foods. Doing my part for the economy, yes?

Anyways, here are some items from Montreal-based designer Valerie Dumaine's Spring 09 collection. They may or may not come home with me. Depends how broke I become after day one. Oopsie daisy! Guess I can't afford the plane ticket home!

In other news, phase two of Operation: Michelle Learns Basic Computer Skills is complete. The header is no longer blurry or headache-inducing and I've figured out how to post larger pictures. Baby steps, people.

ZIEGFELD FOLLIES

Currently inspired by these old photos of the Ziegfeld Follies girls. I especially love all the fringe and the giant painter's pallettes. They make me want to cut my hair and wear it in finger waves all the time.
PS: Do we like the shiny new blog layout? The template thingy may as well be written in Chinese, what with the x's and -'s and numbers and what not. It took me a shameful amount of time to figure out and more than a few pots of tea.

REPRESENT

Okay, okay, okay. OKAY. I am going to ignore the fact that this magazine costs more than my monthly energy bill because I need it. Seventeen dollars well spent! Never mind that they've enlisted The White Witch to rock this editorial, but she wears a dress by Mark Fast on the cover! The cover!!! Do you know where Mark Fast is from?? Of course you don't. He's from WINNIPEG!!

Every article I've ever seen about him usually mentions that he grew up near a forest in Canada, or that he's based out of London now. The dude's from just outside of Winnipeg, so I know not what forest he speaks of. Fifty trees in a row hardly counts. Anyways, let him make up whatever he wants because the man has MADE IT OUT! Not only that, but he's made it big. I'm going to paste this editorial to my walls as a reminder that I shouldn't let this city suck the soul out of me just yet. It's hard to remain focused and creative in a landscape primarily made of parking lots, so once and a while it's nice to hear a success story.

Here's the rest of the editorial:

Bedazzler

Speaking of wings, this seems like a possible DIY project. I'll just have to find a suitable victim. Also, today I acquired a Bedazzler from my parent's basement. I have no idea how it works or what I'll do with it, but I will consider posting the resulting atrocities on the blog.

Oh and have you ever wondered what happens to the contestants of reality shows like The Apprentice after they've been booted off? They become spokespeople for the Bedazzler.

I died!

Just call me Slash

I modeled (read: copied completely) this tshirt after Camille's DIY sweater and spine tshirt. Next time I plan to apply the seam sealer on the inside of the tshirt, as it left a shiny rim around each of the cut edges which looks a bit messy. Also, I should follow instructions more carefully next time since I opted out of drawing my design first to make sure I liked it. My skull turned out looking far more jolly than I wished him to.

Anyways, now that I know what I'm doing I figure nothing in my wardrobe is safe. I'm thinking of cutting a pair of wings into my next victim.
